The Department of Coins and Medals at the British Museum is currently looking for two Researchers for the Leverhulme Trust-funded Money in Africa research project. Working with the Curator of Modern Money, both roles will involve research in the UK and in Africa, on the last 150 years of Africa’s monetary and economic history. The two Researchers will have different areas of specialist expertise: for one post we are looking for a historian, and for the other we are looking for an anthropologist. Both roles may also involve supervising volunteers and interns, or freelance research assistants.
The ideal candidates will be educated to postgraduate level or equivalent in a relevant subject with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Broad knowledge of modern African history and cultures, imperial history, or the history or sociology of money would be desirable, as would experience of working in a museum or with museum collections, or a working knowledge of one or more of the modern languages spoken in Africa.
